Burnout can happen to anyone, especially when you're feeling overworked and undervalued. Here are a few tips from Stephen Weaver, MA, MSED, LMFT, mental health provider at First Stop Health, to help you manage burnout:
Take a break from others.
Take time throughout the day to check in on yourself, I recommend 2-3x daily. Take a break from co-workers, loved ones, or others to allow time alone with yourself to assess your own feelings and understand your needs.
Use this “down time” to focus on your internal signals.
If you feel overwhelmed or tension, focus on that feeling and take time to understand what may be causing that emotion.
Try your favorite self-care option.
Seek your favorite self-care option to release the tension or stress. My favorite options are acupuncture, massages, yoga, saunas, and hot tubs.
Remember, self-care shouldn’t be a once in a while thing. Self-care should be a regular part of your routine, especially when you need it.
