How Virtual Mental Health Support Helped Jane Navigate Change

Starting your first job after college is supposed to feel exciting. For Jane, it felt overwhelming.

She was navigating a new job while dealing with stress and anxiety that had begun reaching into other parts of her life. Her sleep was affected. Her relationships with her boyfriend, friends and family were feeling the strain.

She didn't need someone to tell her that life was stressful. She needed support figuring out how to move through it. That’s where her work with First Stop Health Therapist Heather Liebe began. Rather than jumping immediately to solutions, Heather took time to understand Jane.

They talked through her history, what was happening in her life and where she was struggling. From there, Heather introduced different tools and strategies Jane could experiment with and make her own. Together they built a set of tools she could use beyond their conversations. And gradually, things began to change.

Jane's sleep improved, her anxiety decreased, and her relationships improved. But perhaps the clearest sign of progress came when life changed again.

When the Next Big Changes Came

By the end of their time working together, Jane had two major reasons to celebrate: she became engaged and received a promotion at work.

Those kinds of changes can bring excitement and stress at the same time. Earlier in her journey, they might have felt overwhelming. This time was different.

She had strategies she could turn to. Instead of feeling consumed by what came next, she felt excited about it. The stressful moments hadn't disappeared. What changed was how prepared she felt to navigate them.

Building Skills That Extend Beyond the Appointment

Mental health support extends past the challenge directly in front of you. For Heather, part of meaningful care is helping people develop tools they can continue using as their lives evolve.

A difficult season at work may pass. Relationships may change. New responsibilities may emerge. There will always be another transition.

Having strategies for recognizing stress, managing anxiety and understanding your own responses can help make those transitions feel more manageable.

Jane's growth reflected in her ability to meet new experiences differently.

Making It Easier to Ask for Support

Mental health care can only make a difference when people feel comfortable using it.

Accessibility, flexibility and trust all play a role.

Virtual visits make it easier to fit an appointment around work and everyday responsibilities. But convenience alone doesn't create connection. Patients also need the space to talk openly, feel heard and build a relationship with someone they trust.

That combination can turn an appointment into something much more valuable: a place to develop skills that continue working long after the call ends.

Progress Can Look Like Feeling Ready for What Comes Next

Better mental health doesn't mean never feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed again.

Sometimes progress looks like sleeping better.

Sometimes it's noticing that anxiety doesn't have the same hold on your relationships.

And sometimes it's receiving big news about your career or personal life and realizing you have the tools to handle everything that comes with it.

For Jane, that's what changed. She went through a difficult season, and came out of it better equipped for the next one with the support

Compassionate care makes a difference. See what’s possible.
