  1. Make sure not to skip meals on the day of the social event and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  2. Eat a small snack at least 1 hour before going to the event.
  3. Socialize more and focus less on the food. Enjoy the company of the guests and/or friends at the party. Stand away from the buffet table to avoid temptations.
  4. Decide before you go what your limit will be with alcohol. Recommendations for women are no more than 1 serving of alcohol a day and no more than 2 servings for men. Alcohol can also increase your appetite.
  5. Use a small plate or get smaller portions.
  6. Savor each bite and eat slowly.
  7. Drink non-calorie beverages or seltzer water if available. Drink more water if healthy choices are limited.
  8. If you are taking food, take fruits and vegetables, a big salad or another healthy option.
  9. Relax, enjoy and have a good time
